Horton Circa 1811

Horton c1811 showing a by-pass track from Oakley Road and coming out on the Mile about where today’s entrance to the playing field is situated.  There is also another lane from the Mile to Church Lane.  Note also the lane from Millss Lane (Mill Lane) to Ragnall’s Lane and the extension of Millss Lane to Whitecross Green and the road to Bicester.  Note that the Bucks border was then a lot closer to the village where today Mill Lane footpath crosses a stream.  The track past Gardener’s Barn is now realigned with a concrete track.  However the original road can be walked using recently installed styles but means trampling on the crops.  The windmill site is shown just above the “r” in Horton.
