1841 Census Horton cum Studley

The 1841 census was the first national census in England but did not include place of birth , only if born in the county (yes – no). This we know is not entirely accurate as the 1851 census gives places of birth and these can be cross checked. Only the trade or profession of the head of the house is given, except with servants and living in labourers. Ind means that the person had independent means.

Description – All that parish of Horton and Studley upon including the place of Studley Bucks both places adjoining bounded on the north by Murcott East by Boarstall south by Stanton St John and west by Beckley (Studley consisting of only 17 houses)

The census is very difficult to read and many of the surname spelling is guesswork. Many ages are rounded off to the nearest five years, hence the apparent large number of twins or even triplets. Some of the abbreviations are not known but appear to refer to servants.
