Notes for RICHARD PIPE:
Richard was married twice, to two sisters. Marriages were often close together in early times, as a new wife was needed to keep house and look after a young family. At the time there was no social welfare dept. also the younger sister most likely had already been involved with her sisters new child, in helping out and the like.
In the Staffordshire Trade Directory of 1818, under the Tamworth section there are two entries.
Richard Pipe grocer and druggist Market Place, house at Bonehill cottage.
James Pipe Linen and woolen draper Silver Street. Later on, this James can be seen as the brother to Richard, who was baptized in 1781.
. It appears that Richard's son John later lived in the Market Street shop, as can be seen from the census of 1851 where we have his son John Pipe and wife and family listed as living there, also grocer.
In the Tamworth Church records D3773/1/156 List of persons who pay herbage 1793-1842 we find, Richard Pipe of Market Street, the yearly sum of 2d, 8d paid in 1812 and 6d paid in 1815.
