Parliamentary Division Mid Oxon (Part of)
The 1891 census had a column “Number of rooms occupied if less than five”.
There seems to some confusion as to which county “Studley” was in. The census says Bucks then crosses it out and puts in Oxon. It was, and still is in Bucks. The census also puts Whitecross Green in Bucks, although in the 1881 Census has it in Oxfordshire. The c1991 Map shows the county boundary to the south of the present boundary and puts Whitecross Green in Bucks.
M = Married, U = Unmarried, W = Widow or Widower, Ag Lab = Agricultural Labourer
Lower
Green Road (This appears to cover what is now Church Lane and Ragnalls Lane)

The
Collett family lived in Middle Green Road in the 1881 census. However people remember “Father” Collett the
Methodist preacher and wheelwright living on the right beyond the church in
Otmoor Road (Church Lane) now the site of Dufryn House..
Middle
Green Road
- probably the small lane that now leads to the Studio and Fieldfares off
Church Lane.

The
village shop was in what is now called Mill Lane where number 1 & 2 are now
situated. There shop also had a number
of outhouses. George Auger also farmed
about 4 acres behind the shop. The
school was behind the shop in the wasteland behind the church. The Auger’s lived in Blacksmith’s Lane in
1881 (next to the Almshouses). It
appears that the shop moved between 1881 and 1891.

The
track leading from the King’s Arms led to Lower Farm. All that remains are two barns part of Manor farm. The farmhouse was destroyed by fire in about
1910. The overgrown and disused track
still remains.

In
this census Brill Road appears to be from the King’s Arms up the hill as well
as the current Brill Road. The 1881 census calls the hill Oxford Road as far as
the Priory and then Blacksmith’s Lane to the Brill Road.
